To some the above and below books would not be worth a dime, but to me an avid collector of antique books these were treasures found on one of my recent road trips with Steve. The Sceptre, much to my surprise upon pulling it from the plastic bag, was in very good condition on the inside. Yes, the pages are that warm golden yellow and crisp around the edges, but the print is very good considering it was written in 1871.
Although the spine on the 1870 book below is all but worn completely away the signatures are still sewn in well with only a handful of the pages pulled loose. It was the cover that drew me to this one. In time I will use pages from them in my artwork and I will share some of these pages with art friends over time, but for now they will join my rather large collection of books to be admired.
For the past few months I can relate to both of these wonderful books. Worn and Torn! I have found myself trying to put 26 hrs into a 24 hr day which has left me worn and torn to the point that I have not been sleeping, have aches and pains that I should not be having. Your body can just take so much before it lets go and you better be ready to catch your fall. I have spent the past several months trying to let go of things and finding ways to better handle situations and it was still not enough. For the past week I have been fighting an infection within my body due to over doing and causing a cyst to rupture in my back that had been there for many years. So when you feel a little worn and your body is feeling torn....listen to it.
I have spent the last week letting go of things that I thought were important to me and only dealing with the things that meant something to me. It is amazing what a little down time can do for your priorities. It certainly has put mine in order and I am beginning to feel better than ever and am now looking forward to the weeks ahead. All though they may be hectic at times, I know I am in control of what I do and when I do it.
So which book are you? Worn and Torn on the outside, but for the most part in pretty good shape on the inside or a little Worn and Torn on the outside, but falling a part on the inside.
